ILGA World
ILGA World – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association - is a worldwide federation of more than 1,900 organisations from over 160 countries and territories campaigning for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex human rights.
What was the aim of your implementation?
ILGA World needed to improve its membership management and payment process. The initial aim therefore was to have all member organisations added to CiviCRM as well as their payment history and the annual membership payment process supported by CiviCRM. The accurate membership information is also used to decide on voting rights during bi-annual conferences.
In recent years, the bi-annual conference also required scholarship applications to be granted to a selection of applicants on the basis of a series of criteria. That entire process, including participants registrations, are run based on CiviCRM data.
The approach and progress of the project
The implementation was an entirely online iterative process as well as all the further development of functionality for scholarship applications and particpant registrations. Each time new functionality is requested, it is developed in a similar, though smaller, project approach.
An example of new functionality would be the synchronisation of member data between ILGA World and ILGA Europe. Both organisations can collect data from the other:
- ILGA World can collect current contact data from ILGA World's member organisations;
- ILGA Europe can collect up-to-date membership data from ILGA World.
The development of this synchronisaton took a fair bit of time because we needed a fair bit of discussion to work out the details of which data, and which data are most recent and how do we know that. The result of those discussions were then fed back to CiviCooP and they developed the necesary software, which was then extensively tested by both our organisations and has now increased our data quality immensely.
What has been CiviCooP's role: before, during and after implementation?
CiviCooP has been involved with ILGA World now for a number of years. Logically, a lot of knowledge about ILGA World's processes and procedures has been obtained by CiviCooP. That awareness of ILGA World's datastructure and how its processes and procedures are supported by CiviCRM and the public webforms helps to include new requirements that come from within our organisation. It makes it possible to organically make the system support our ever developing needs.
What role does CiviCRM play now?
CiviCRM is the central system for membership-, event- and newsletter management as well as keeping records for our fundraising. All of those functions have some level of integration with our webiste.
