Showcase CiviCRM Amnesty

Amnesty International Flanders

Amnesty International is a global, independent and impartial organization of more than 10 million people who stand up for a world in which all human rights are respected.

Outrage over human rights violations and hope for a world in which all people enjoy all human rights is what drives us. Amnesty International campaigns for a world in which there is respect for the human rights of all people, wherever they are in the world.

Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms for all people, regardless of their nationality, gender, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language or other status. Human rights include civil and political rights, such as the right to life, liberty and freedom of expression.

In addition, there are also social, cultural and economic rights, including the right to participate in culture, the right to food, the right to work and to education.

Amnesty strives for a just world in which everyone has equal rights and can live in freedom.

What was the aim of your implementation?

It has been more than 10 years since our implementation. At the time, there were two main reasons: replacing an outdated package and processing SEPA mandates. Now CiviCRM is our central system that contains all data (contacts, donations, events, activities, segmentation, communication). In 2023, we mainly worked on optimizing the processing of street recruitment campaigns and compiling segmentations for direct mailing.

The approach and progress of the project

Every year we make an annual plan for major steps we want to take. Once a month we have a sprint: we work for 2 days with the people from CiviCooP in our office in Brussels on the things that are on the annual plan and what comes up on an ad hoc basis. Together we look carefully at what exactly the problem is, what we want to achieve, what the possibilities are in CiviCRM and what may need to be developed. Once the solution is available, we test extensively and the solution eventually goes live. By the way, CiviCooP once made a video for the community about CiviCRM at Amnesty International Flanders.

What has been CiviCooP's role: before, during and after implementation?

We have been working with CiviCooP since 2013, we don't really know any better. It says enough that the people from CiviCooP are among the photos of our employees near the coffee machine and that Erik from CiviCooP was also involved in job interviews.

What comes to mind: honest, straightforward, no nonsense, telling it like it is, asking critical questions, providing clarification, removing chaos. We get along well with each other.

What role does CiviCRM play now?

CiviCRM is our spider in the web, the central system where all data surrounding our contacts comes together. Data from the website, linking with our peer-to-peer fundraising web app, collecting data from our door-to-door recruitment partners, all data comes together in CiviCRM. We have made great strides over the years using CiviCRM and we also have more than enough challenges for the next steps, together with CiviCooP.
